enviro-geek.net was originally set up as a host for a number of web sites for environmental organisations based in Newcastle, Australia, by Oliver, and naught101. It has since opened up with the hope of furthering all environmental/ecological and social justice struggles in relation to the 'net - but always as a means to an end.
Soon after opening up the enviro-geek.net web site we formed the enviro-geek collective, with the following goals:
- To act as a network for knowledge and skill sharing for community-, social justice-, and environment-minded geeks.
- To forward all technical aspects of community, social justice, and environment movements in regards to information technology.
- To provide web-presence support to not-for-profit community, social justice, and environment focused organisations.
We aim to meet these goals by providing the following services:
- A place for community, social justice, and environment-minded geeks to organise and share knowledge (this web site).
- Free or donation hosting for groups that can't afford their own.
- Web presence tools (content management systems, guides, software recommendation) and some support.
This web site, like most of our web sites, is based on Drupal, a free and open-source web content management system.
